What is Acupuncture? As one of the stanchions of TCM, acupuncture is a technique used by practitioners to stimulate specific points on the body by inserting thin needles into the skin to encourage natural healing. These points are located along the meridian through which energy or qi flows through the body.
Acupuncture is commonly used in the administration of pain relief, as shown in studies that it stimulates the release of the body’s natural painkillers and affects areas in the brain that processes pain. Accredited by the World Health Organization (WHO), acupuncture has also proven to be an effective treatment for various conditions.
Yin YangStanding on the same theory of TCM, the principles of acupuncture reside within creating a harmonious balance between the yin and yang extremes of the body’s lifeforce, or qi. When illness occurs, it is believed this is due to an imbalance of these forces. Energy flow can be restored to balance by the administration of acupuncture through 350 different acupuncture points in the body via techniques such as ascending, descending, reinforcing or clearing the qi flows.
